VIZ Media Europe teams up with Shueisha to bring back The Legendary Football anime series in Europe.

Broadcasted on more than 40 TV channels across Europe and leading worldwide broadcasters, the most popular Football anime in the world is going to return on screen by the hands of its creator, the Japanese Yoichi Takahashi. Launched in 1981, Captain Tsubasa has become the idol of an entire generation. The strong determination of the hero Tsubasa and his incredible technics have inspired many kids, playing today in top European Football teams. The new series is set to premiere in Japan this April on TV Tokyo.

The new anime recounts the events of the original manga series that was originally serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump comic book magazine between 1981 and 1988, with 37 volumes. Captain Tsubasa has sold over 82 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series. The manga triggered a huge football boom in Japan and inspired three previous television anime series, four anime films, mobile and console video games, and even a stage play.

About the new animation series of CAPTAIN TSUBASA
Centered on a young football prodigy named Tsubasa Ozora, the new series is from David Production (JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE), with Toshiyuki Kato (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Diamond is Unbreakable, Level E) directing. Each episode is characterized by dynamic and stylish football moves, while the characters are fleshed out through Tsubasa’s friendships and rivalries as he trains and competes.

A Silent Voice

A Silent Voice is a powerful and captivating full-length feature film that finely encompasses sensitive topics such as school bullying and disability. The film Director, Naoko Yamada, whose work has been awarded on several occasions, is part of this new generation of Japanese Directors who will soon be key-producers on an international level. With this adaptation, she brilliantly connects with the story and cleverly adapts it, resulting in a poetic movie filled with grace, that succeeds in subtly addressing delicate issues. Shoya Ishida is a reckless young boy who spends his free time defying his comrades with increasingly extravagant challenges. When deaf Shoko Nishimiya joins their school, some changes are bound to happen in the class’ day-to-day habits. From polite interest to exasperation, Shoya grabs the opportunity to level up: mockery, bullying, persecution... all this under the indifferent gaze of the teachers. But everything changes dramatically when Shoko finally gives in and leaves school while Shoya is considered as responsible by everyone: he is singled out and given the same treatment. A couple of years later, Shoya, stricken by remorse, starts looking for Shoko to apologize for his behaviour.

As Nate, Jibanyan, and Whisper try to find a way to settle the dispute, they solve the mystery of how the first Yo-kai Watch was originally created...

After five years in his function as President of VIZ Media Europe, Hyoe Narita has passed the torch on to Kazuyoshi Takeuchi. He was instrumental during the merger of the group that is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2017, while reinforcing its presence in Europe. Narita has worked on implementing the strategy that allowed VME to gain market shares by launching on the European market animation and manga properties such as Yo-Kai Watch, Doraemon, One Piece, Dragon Ball and Beyblade. He will continue to provide services to the VME group as Executive Advisor.

Kazuyoshi Takeuchi has been appointed as his successor and will assume the role of President of VIZ Media Europe. He will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations in Europe. Takeuchi has dedicated his career to publishing in Japan: hired by Shodensha in 1974, he worked his way up to be finally appointed as President in 2002. With this wealth of experience and his passion for cultural exchanges, Takeuchi intends to bring strong support to VIZ Media Europe in the coming years.

About Kazuyoshi Takeuchi
Born in Hiroshima, Kazuyoshi Takeuchi graduated in Social Sciences from Hitotsubashi University in Japan. In 1974, he joined Shodensha, a company that publishes non-fiction, "light novels", mangas and magazines (Feel Young, Zipper, Nina’s), where he was administrative and financial director, sales, marketing and publishing licensing director, to be finally appointed as president in 2002. Since 2015, he has been an advisor for Shodensha Publishing Co., Ltd. – Hitotsubashi Management Group. As PACE (Publishers’ Association for Cultural Exchange) Chairman, he greatly contributed to the cultural exchanges in the publishing industry. Since 2014, as an editorial writer for France at Shuppan News (a B2B magazine on publishing), he has helped knowledge diffusion on French publishing.

My Hero Academia is back at VIZ Media Europe

VIZ Media Europe has acquired the distribution rights (Simulcast, TV, VoD, DVD, Blu-ray and merchandising) for the second season of My Hero Academia, in Europe (except United Kingdom and Nordic Countries), Middle-East and Africa. Adapted from the eponymous manga series that was created by Kohei Horikoshi and published in France by Ki-oon, My Hero Academia takes place in a society where 80 % of the population possesses super-powers (also known as ‘‘Alter’’). Izuku Midoriya, a student in the Oridera secondary school, has none. His powers have not emerged... and will probably never do. Next year, he will have to go to high-school, and even without an alter, he has decided on joining the esteemed Yuei academy where all the strongest superheroes have been trained...

This second season of My Hero Academia will start to air in Japan on Nippon TV and Yomiuri TV, every Saturday at 5:30pm (local time) starting on April 1st, and will lead to a simulcast in several countries in Europe. For France and Germany, Anime Digital Network and Anime on Demand will respectively broadcast this exciting sequel.

My Hero Academia is currently one of the most expected animated series on the market. Prepublished since July 2014 in the biggest shonen magazine in Japan,
(Weekly Shonen Jump, Shueisha), it has never stopped growing. The franchise is expanding globally with strong sales performances. In France, the first seven volumes of the manga have sold more than 280,000 copies in a few months (source: GFK), while the first anime season has generated more than 4 million views on French streaming platform Anime Digital Network.

A new Blue Exorcist season for VIZ Media Europe

VIZ Media Europe is pleased to announce the acquisition of broadcasting and distribution rights (TV, VoD DVD, Blu-Ray) for the animated series Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga in French and German speaking European countries.

With the acquisition of the second season of Blue Exorcist, VIZ Media Europe keeps proposing the entire licence and building an even more coherent universe: manga and DVD/Blu-ray for Kazé, streaming on Anime Digital Network as well as distribution rights for TV and VOD for VME. The series fans will be able to watch this new narrative arc starting the beginning of the year.

When he learns that he is Satan’s son and that his adoptive father sacrified his own life to save him, Rin decides to become an exorcist himself. But how can one possibly gain anyone’s trust when he can, simply by drawing a sword, unleash hellish powers?
Launched in 2009 in Japan and in 2014 in France, the series created by Kazue Kato has grabbed the public’s attention at an international level.
With two volumes released each year, the long-awaited eighteenth volume will be released before the end of the year.

A 360° licence
Since the launch of Blue Exorcist, VIZ Media Europe has proposed all the titles of the licence in France, through its Kazé and Anime Digital Network branches: 17 volumes of the manga, the novel, the official guides, the complete first season of the animation as well as the movie, in streaming and DVD/Blu-ray.

Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga will be broadcasted on Japanese television starting January 6, 2017 and will lead to a simulcast in several countries in Europe. In  France, Anime Digital Network will propose this long awaited season. The series will be streamed for free on ADN and available at no cost for one year.

Upon a nomination at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Viz Media Europe, European leader in managing rights for Japanese animated series, is pleased to announce the acquisition of distribution rights (cinema, TV, DVD, Blu-Ray, VoD) for the animated movie The anthem of the heart in France as well as French-speaking Europe and Africa.

This beautiful yet melodramatic fable tells the story of Jun whose life, after losing her voice, will be shaken when she meets the high-school music club. Kaze will release The anthem of the heart in DVD and Blu-ray in France for the end of 2016. Viz Media Europe will present this film for its nomination in the official selection (out of competition) of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival starting on June 13.

Behind this new animated movie released in Japan in September 2015 is the A-1 Pictures studio (Blue Exorcist, Black Butler and Fairy Tail movies). In Japan, The anthem of the heart was a great box office success with a revenue exceeding €8M.


Jun Naruse is a girl who carries the guilt of breaking up her family with the words she carelessly uttered when she was young.
